Survival Korean
Telling stories is a core human tradition. Through narratives about love, loss, greed, morality, etc., the generations that have come before us pass down and share their values, lessons, perspectives. These offer us a glimpse into their unique cultural and social worldviews. In this course, we present four classic folk tales (금도끼 은도끼 [The Gold and Silver Axes], 청개구리 [The Disobedient Green Frog], 평강공주와 바보온달 [Princess Pyeonggang and Ondal the Fool], and 흥부와 놀부 [The Brothers Heungboo and Nolboo]) that have captured the hearts of millions of Koreans that virtually everyone on the peninsula knows today. Through simplified language-versions of these stories, you will engage your Korean language skills by not only learning new words and expressions, but practice your reading, listening, and speaking abilities as well.
