The Big Question
It is a difficult calculus to determine the price point we should sell something for, let alone something as intangible as an online course. That being said, we do know what the price of Korean textbooks are, as well as what college or language center courses cost, and what private tutoring can cost per hour of instruction. The range, of course, is wide, just as the quality and level of organization and detail are.
Our Thinking
Given all of this, our goal was simple - we wanted a single course to be financially accessible much like a book is a one-time purchase. However, unlike a book, blog, or website, we wanted to provide learners with the opporunity to ask questions with a Korean instructor via our course forums or by email. This is the difference between self-study online, random websites or videos, and a book that cannot provide any more clarity or insight than what is written and printed on the page. Moreover, with Survival Korean, you get access to not simply an instructor, but rather multilingual educators with doctoral level education in teaching, education, and language learning for the duration of the course. Unlike other learning resources or platforms out there, your instructor(s) have the highest levels of relevant education!
No Ads, Upsells, or Premium Content
We also do not believe in supporting our service with ads as these are both irritating and tiresome. Moreover, we are not trying to "sell" on signing up only to find out that you have to pay more money to get access to certain content, or that you need a premium account to get a full feature set. Rather, for one simple price, you get a fully functional, content-rich course.
The Big Picture
50 USD for a custom-designed course with 10-weeks of 1:1 instructor QnA access with an instructor (Lia) who holds a PhD in Korean as a Foreign Language education is exceptional value. You can rest even more assured with another doctoral holder in Educational Technology (Liam) designing and supporting your courses to help you along your Korean language journey. There are no other such platforms or services for learning Korean online that we know of!
Morever, there are costs involved in running a business from paying for a server, internet bandwidth, email domains, our back-end services, buying books and the time to research, organize, and program everything you see here! We think the price is not only fair but attractive, and we think you will agree too! We are doing everything that we can to keep our costs low so that our course prices can remain low as well.
